so san fran sunday

michael and i met up for loukoumades, little donuts with orange and cardamom and honey syrup, at the greek festival. well we had high expectations as pdx has an amazing greek fest and we agree that pdx does it better. but we decided to swap our plans of exploring oakland for the blues fest and then decided to go to the folsom street fair first.
it was an experience and i am glad i was with michael. lots of naked dudes, cop uniforms, bondage gear, public sex and happy faces in the hot sun. people kept telling me that they liked my shirt( i love it too it is a vintage cut, mustard yellow with small white polka dots) or they would ask me if i wanted a spanking. we had seen it all literaly and decided to continue or adventure somewhere else. as we left folsom i ended up saying hello to a few guys and ended up giving them a ride to the castro. they were hilarious with a million and one questions for us and invited us to castro street fair this saturday "pink night is the place to be".
wondered around the marina and thought we had stumbled upon a renaissance fair, yikes. it was biscuits and blues in disguise. we opted to go for a walk and head back to the mission for a burrito. after a pit stop at bev mo, like a candy store of alcohol, we just missed the buy one bottle of wine get a 2nd for a nickel. next time. super fun whirlwind tour around the city. my face is a little sun kissed i am excited for fall.

art

my work has thrust me further into the world of art and i love it. it consumes so much of my daily life. here are a few favorites from the wooster collective.

as pure as a shrimp cracker

well it has been a long week with back to school night, and  a surprise visitor.
it was nice to sleep in and then go to lunch with a friend.
i was told that they probably reuse the shellfish shells, i almost lost it. at the time it seemed perfectly feasible, rationale, plausible and hilarious. 'never really thought about it before.
i am still so in love with this city. relationships have come and gone but i still love this place and i have found comfort in the consistency.

san fran symphony love

i have been a busy little bee this week... and without my camera. went for an amazing hike by the beach the other day and i am still sore. just imagine a beautiful coastal california ocean scene with the sun on your face and a warm breeze. it was beautiful. oh we stopped at the legion of honor first and they have a new chihuly piece that glowed in the sun. later that night i met some friends of a friend in the financial district for fabulous scotch and spent the last part of the night at a little bar tucked away in a little ally dancing to old tunes of frank sinatra, just missed the live jazz/swing band. kind of felt like i was in the  movie cocoon or florida circa 1950.
but last night i went to the symphony with michael in our matching pinstripes, i wore my favorite little pinstripe strapless dress. we met up at zuni and then off for some people watching and the city vista from the balcony.
i love the symphony! and san francisco.
we caught the last performance before they leave for carnegie hall.
afterwards we walked around the city and ended up in the castro before meeting up with his friends visiting from pdx. took a little irish bar tour before calling it a night. woke up to a sunny afternoon and this striking paper on the stoop.
back to preparing for school!

buckshot baby

the ol' buckshot bar makes me feel like i am in pdx, or matt and kristens basement. miss you! tonights drink special was the ike turner, hennessey with a slap to the face. they also have fried chicken and chicken fried bacon and loads of fun games to work it all off or just shake your booty to the old school hip hop. awe yeah

southern gentleman

getting over a bug and on the mend... somehow convinced to go out for a drink. we visited a few pubs on clement(got an invitation to come back for a private party monday) and then off for a quick bite in the marina. discovered a swanky little place called the balboa cafe that seduced us into making one last stop. i was so entertained by the old money scene, overwhelmed with a mix of nausea and fascination. and not a minute to soon i was met mark, a sweet southern gentleman that knew how to get me a fine glass of scotch. ah, chivalry

lunching with luis

luis is from peru and decided it was high time for me to learn about his native cuisine.
i had a drink that looked like concord grape juice but it was made of purple corn with nutmeg maybe. oh mmm and donuts i had a craving for donuts and he came through with the little tasty morsels above made with sweet potato and a honey glaze and ice cream from a peruvian fruit. the table behind us was full of brazilian men speaking in portuguese, i love the language and thank goodness i still remember some of it. after a stop at dolores park to check on the big brass orchestra it was back home to read and rest.

morning at the farmers market

happy hippy

simply amazing. power to the peaceful was at gg park today. it is the largest free concert and this year they had ziggy marley and spearhead.  it was awesome and so inspiring. the guy on top did a few back flips and landed back on the tight rope, say what, while his lady friend yelled out ganja brownies 2 for $10. it transported me back to my days of youth, not the selling ganja brownies part but the rest of it. oh and i got to meet ms. code pink.

late on haight

well we looked fancy but i wanted to wear my new dress. started with live jazz, new orleans style at bar deluxe and then did a little hoppin' and whiskey drinkin'.

city hike

alex just left to go camping about 3 hours away from sf. i really, really wanted to go but i have so much to do here in the city. it was hot today hovering around 90* but i decided to brave the heat and go on a city adventure hike to china town and then the ferry building. i had fun and now i am off to spend time with the girls in the city in my new dress. 'nope not swimming and fishing in the redwoods but some time outside just the same. next time i will go.
